Snack Hole

Snack hole.JPG Snack Hole Yellow Tail.JPG

The Slog has its panties in a bunch over latest McDonald's menu item. Cornichon goes ho-hum, having read about the development earlier this week in the Wall Street Journal. The campaign promotes a "new" Snack Wrap that essentially recycles the breaded chicken used in Mickey D's Chicken Select strips, tops it with shredded lettuce and cheese, adds a few squirts of ranch sauce and wraps it in a flour tortilla for a buck twenty-nine. Count on Slog, though, to see the billboard as a huge penis.

What would Slog say to this upcoming story in Consumer Reports about McDonald's coffee, we wonder? Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and Burger King all come in for drubbing; compared with "decent" brew at McDonald's. Gulp.

Comments

I was surprised to see the billboard. Rather thoughtless of the advertiser/agency. The comments from Slog are probably representative of the thoughts of most viewers of any persuasion.

Interesting; I haven't seen it yet. Hey, it's a free country.Probably no worse than some of the political stuff we will see in the next 2 years! Have you tried McD's coffee? It beat out all contenders this week.

Salut cher Ronald,

Seulement un commentaire:

F**king this custard!

I hope you won't mind I forwarded the info and translated it in Dutch on http://www.christiancallec.com and in French (you might enjoy it even better) on http://www.christiancallec.com/fr/

Cheers for now, go on with the good job!

Great work Ron - just talking about this rubbish and showing their crass advertisement, gives them reason. They are jerks - but we should either IGNORE them, or start setting fire to their "swilleries" (a true anglicism for restaurants for fatting up pigs). Oh and cannot the SLOG (whovever they may be) lay off penis's - I know mine looks much more appetising than this rubbish !

I'd say the reference in the billboard is to Pie Hole, a common, old-fashioned synonym for "mouth." As in, "Shut your pie-hole." Does not, however, make the billboard any less vulgar.

How timely, or at least coincidental, that I find this commentary/subject matter in my e-mail from Cornichon. I saw the ad today for the first time. I was aghast at the language. No, I did not "see" a penis (until I read your remarks about The Slog's comments), but I do "hear" the vulgarity of the language. I think McDonalds is playing on the unpleasant British expression "cake hole" - anyway the word vulgar comes from vulgate or COMMON, or these days corporate!
