Velvet power

Summer Sunday in Snohomish: a privileged tasting of cabernet sauvignon from Quilceda Creek, producer of the most sophisticated wine in Washington.

Winery founder Alex Golitzin, along with his son Paul, make wines as complex and powerful as the greatest Bordeaux yet with velvet, almost Burgundian tannins. The tasting, which included gold-medal-winning wines from 1979 and 1984, revealed a stunning leap of quality in the late 1990s. Altogether, a remarkable accomplishment, much appreciated by the Seattle branch of the International Wine and Food Society.
