Oof!

This is the way the World Cup ends, not with a whimper but bang, a not-so-beau geste from Zizou. What a shame, what a shame.

Head butt.JPG Zidane head-butt.jpg Chirac.JPG

Frog-in-chief Chirac tries to smooth it over, to no avail. Worn down, worn out, the hero of French soccer behaved like, well, a trash-talkin' NFL lineman. Quelle horreur, quelle honte!

This action proves that some people have their head up their backside.

In Italian, matterazi means mattresses, well kind of, actually "materassi" which is what you wish you had when you fall down. Actually if the Frenchman wanted to do real damage he would have aimed higher. However he set a bad example, no excuses.

The World Cup ends with a new fallen idol.

Hello Ron -
Looks like you are enjoying your trip!

I don't know how to post on the blog, but we have a comment.

Did NO ONE notice the Italian holding on to Zidane from behind and pulling on his already injured arm? Then Zidane moving on ahead and suddenly wheeling back on the Italian player?
Something pretty bad must have been said, and as one Italian watcher friend of our stated:"The Italians have a bag of tricks for games like this." He meant it more like "dirty tricks."
This is not to excuse Zidane's losing his head, so to speak. Just that there may be a little more to the incident, besides the fact the the italian player was not cited either before the head incident or after seeing the replay for holding. He became the "victim."

"A man hath no better thing under the sun, than to eat, and to drink, and to be merry."

poor form by zizou, regardless of what was said to him. Surely, he has heard it all before.
