The war on avocados

| 4 Comments

Two press releases have wafted through the series of tubes to the top of the spam heap this morning.

The first predicts that Americans will consume 50 million pounds of avocados while watching pro football on Big Game Day. (Note the careful avoidance of the politically charged term Superbowl.) A pound per person? That's a lot of guacamole! No wonder the average Seahawks fan weighs (almost) as much as Marcus Tubbs or Floyd Womack. Kidding! Kidding!!

On the other hand, it says in the second release, Seattle is one of two dozen metropolitan centers under scrutiny by an outfit called Research and Markets for clues about the future of suburban dining. Because, dontcha know, people who live in the sticks take their cues from what from us spoiled city slickers are picking at. Beyond that Applebee's in Auburn and Chili's in Issaquah lies a culinary wasteland needing corporate confirmation that they're actually serving up those avocados in Belltown. Green goo with salsa by the bucket at Mama's Mexican, sure, and a few stray avocado slivers in all those California rolls. But where's the avocado omelet? The avocado-bacon-tomato sandwich? The avocado burger? What's wrong with Belltown, anyway? The Hass people want to know!

Okay Ron, Avocados you bring up? I asked for recipes before, but here you go - this is one of my favorite and most wanted recipes that people have wanted for centuries (okay "centuries" that's an exageration) but the fact is, this green goo rocks. Here it is dudes and dudettes:

2 Large Hass Ripe Avocados;
2 Medium Roma tomatoes;
1-1/2 Walla Walla Sweet (or other yummy onion)
(sliced in very small cubes);
1 T Lemon Juice sprinkled over Avacodos to keep fresh and good green color;
1-1/2 T Worchesture Sauce;
3/4 C Mayonnaise (Best Foods)
1 t Garlic Salt or Lawry's Seasoning Salt;
1-1/2 t of Chili Powder

Okay, there you have one of the yummiest apps that are made with those most wonderous fruits of our planet "the Avocado"! Serve it with many things especially Nacho chips and you will make a plethera of folks happy - dive in, thw green is good!!!

Sure sounds good ...

Must say that in moving to the PNW I sure to miss my avocado dishes. My favorite breakfast place made a bacado omlete of bacon, swiss and avocado topped with sour cream....sigh, I miss it so.

I'm assuming that this group of foods goes through a blender before serving. If so, why are the onions made into small cubes? If not, how are the avocados and tomatoes prepared?
