Couldn't let it go quietly, this modest honor in the company of so much excellent journalism. Second place award for online business reporting (among dozens of categories, media from print dailies to neighborhood blogs across Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana). And, yes, to crow about this also risks references to eating crow, or even eating at Crow on Lower Queen Anne (though they don't offer coupons). So be it.
The Western Washington chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists sponsored the competition, and my editors at Crosscut.com, where the pieces first appeared, paid the entrance fee. They also bought my ticket to the awards banquet at Safeco Field last night.
So many awards were given out that the winners' names were flashed but briefly on the center field video screen; good thing I brought my trusty Lumix. (The winning piece was written for MSN Real Estate by a Los Angeles freelancer, by the way, but because Microsoft is based in Redmond, MSN is considered a Seattle publication.)
Anyway: my Crosscut.com award was for "Online Coupons: Fatal Fever." Caw! Caw!
Congrats!
