Le Beaujolais Nouveau est arrivé

Beaujolais necktie.JPGThe tie is optional; I wore it because it was given to me, many years ago, by a kindly Frenchman who'd come to Seattle (tie in hand) as the official Beaujolais Nouveau ambassador.

My first BN was in Paris, in 1983, on a scouting trip with Mick McHugh; the following year, we brought the first BN to Seattle on the Concorde. Tonight: third Thursday of November, the first wine of the 2012 harvest!

At Marché, Daisley Gordon slices porchetta for open-face sandwiches alongside samples of Drouhin, Chermette, Dupeuble, and Chatelus de la Roche. At Le Pichet, Drouhin once again, and baguette sandwiches. Didn't get to Maximilien (mussels last week). Down in Frenchtown (Madison at MLK), Luc, Café Voilà and St Germain are celebrating. Ballard has Bastille Cafe & Bar etc.

Still to come: tomorrow's gala event, Beaujolais Nouveau Wine Festival at the Columbia Tower Club sponsored by the French-American Chamber of Commerce. The MC is the well-known French-American journalist Dominic Holden.
