In the movie biz, Mark Stern will tell you, it's all about audience expectations. He should know; he and his wife, Katie, own The Big Picture, a luxury theater and bar in Belltown, which does just fine, thank you. Its audience knows what to expect: a cushy environment, a killer sound system, popcorn with truffle butter served in Veuve Clicquot champagne buckets.
But their nearby restaurant, Henry & Oscar's Social Club, has had a little trouble finding its way, its unique identity among dozens of Belltown restaurants, bars and clubs. What to expect at H&O? Nostalgia for New York's Great White Way? (Okay.) Old fashioned comfort food like beef stroganoff? (Sure.) Politicians and sports stars? (Hizzoner has, in fact, been spotted in one of the black leather booths.)
Now, Stern is upping the ante. Not just dinner and a movie, but dinner and a movie at the same time. Four giant plasma screens in the dining room (renamed The Movie Lounge) will show movies six nights a week at 8 PM. First up, tomorrow and Saturday, is Woody Allen's charming "Midnight in Paris." Next week, it's "Silver Linings Playbook," "Sex and the City," and "Django Unchained."
Movie tickets are $8 ($5 if you're a Facebook friend or newsletter subscriber). Full bar and full menu available, but if all you want to is a hot dog and a beer, that's just fine, too.
