Wretched Excess, Wall Street Edition

WSJ cover dog.jpg

There's so much wrong with this, I hardly know where to start.

Could it be that the front & back covers of this Wall Street Journal insert ("WSJ Money," Winter 2013) both feature dogs wearing scarves?

Could it be the smug, self-satisfied look on the face of the guy showing his dog how cool it is to have your own private plane? (I know, I know, Flexjets aren't really "yours," but still.) "Making Memories ... " is what you do after you've made a shit-ton of money, see. You get to take your dog, your fucking dog with you because you don't care what it costs, while your wife reads her Kindle. (I admit I'm irrational on this subject. I look on the entire concept of private jets--and their privileged, entitled owners--with contempt.)

And what can I say about the sad-eyed beast on the cover, its hind leg guarding a hefty stack of Benjamins? Are those ski goggles? Is it some mutant Irish wolfhound? And if so, why is it wearing the scarf of a Scots clan?

And please don't tell me that the art director for the cover didn't talk to the art director for the Flexjet ad. Because nothing says "RICH" like a scarf for your dog eh?

As I said: so many questions.
