That time of year again, right? Can you see into the future? Predict the trends? AOL says it can. I doubt it, but here are their picks for 2016, according to Whole Foods.
- Alternatives to regular flour. Yeah, gluten-free. Also nut flours. Thought we did this in 2001.
- Canned wine. Not again?
- Dehydrated foods. Back to the survivalist 50s, only this time with kale.
- Grass-fed, plant-based. Sounds ever so PC.
- Fermented foods & probiotics. Again, wrong decade.
- "Uncommon" meats and seafood. And just what are these? Cuts like sirloin top, pork T-bone chop, and Denver steaks. Also more sustainable seafood species like paiche and wild-caught blue catfish.
Well, good thing this list doesn't originate with AOL, but with Whole Foods. Can we blame AOL for reporting it? (Well, technically, the lightweight website Business Insider takes credit.) And this shows up why, exactly? Ah, Microsoft and AOL have a deal, you see, because AOL is now owned by Verizon and is handing off its ad sales to MSFT.
The outdated Whole Foods list? Caught in the crossfire.
